Simple Cold Sore Treatments

All cold sores start out the same way, you get that tingly feeling around you lip, the red spot appears, followed by swelling and finally pain. This can last for several weeks and keep you hiding your face every time you go out in public. If you are like me, you may have outbreaks several times a year.

There are some simple, easy treatments you can try to help ease the pain and get rid of your cold sore. Here are a few examples:

Aloe Vera - You may use either the gel or cream version. Applying aloe at the immediate onslaught of your outbreak has been shown to help your cold sore heal faster and help prevent it from reoccurring.

Cornstarch - Mix with water to form a paste and apply to your cold sore. This can help dry out your cold sore and shorten the heal time.

Grapefruit Seed Extract - Mix a few drops with aloe and olive oil and apply to your cold sore.

Ice - This can be used to dull the area and help relieve some of the pain. Another trick is to use ice immediately at the onset of your outbreak. Rub it over the cold sore for approximately 10 min on and off for about an hour. This has been known to stop the cold sore from spreading.

Lemon Balm - This can be purchased at any health store and has been known to help reduce the symptoms of cold sores.

Mint Extract - Rubbing Mint on your cold sore can help shorten the healing time.

These easy home remedies can turn out to be great cold sore treatments. Try a few to see how they work for you.
